Letter Response to Donate Life Commercials
Rationale
We saw some Donate Life commercials inviting people to donate organs. In this assignment I am going to write an informal letter addressed to one of the characters in these commercials who is “Coleman Sweeney”. Pretending to be his sister, I'll convince him to be an organ donor. The purpose of this task is to show how small actions can save the lives of many people, can help them fulfil their dreams.
In this case, Coleman was an “asshole”, he did not care about anything, and he ignored everyone. But my purpose is to be able, from the position of a relative of his, to make him change his mind, since if a close relative is the who comes to him for help, maybe it will make him reflect a little more... and bring back memories of before, and since he was a good boy in his childhood, it was always his sister who helped him, maybe he can persuade him to help me save my life, telling him that I need a kidney transplant since mine is damaged, and explaining all the tragedies that have happened to me over the years so that now I need that transplant.
Using hyperbole, anaphora and periphrasis, I will create an effect on him by making him remember everything from his past, indirectly telling him what to do to become a better person.Additionally, I will use 4 paragraphs that will be divided introduction,. remember his past, the problem he needed it for, and the conclusion. And by repeating my point of view many times, it will make Coleman think about it much more throughout the letter. Also, if I exaggerate my illness, plus everything said above, it will make him think that now it's his duty to help his sister...

Dear Coleman It's been 4 years since the last time we talked... I haven't heard from you, I don't know how your health is, your job, your dog, and your alcohol problem? How's that going..Every day I stare at the phone for hours, waiting for a call that never comes..Tried to call your friends, but they always tell me that they no longer have a connection with you..that they weren't your best friends? What happened? I'll tell you something, when you were little, I saw you play and I imagined all of you as the superheroes of the city! Saving lives, being great, with their capes… OH! Do you remember those sheets that you and your friends took to use as their secret cave? What good times... and I... who was always the doctor who cured them of all their accidents... Well, I must not be so good anymore, it's been a long time...
Little brother... It was always you and me, the incredible COLMAN AND KACIE, the children from the corner, the Sweeney brothers, the inseparable ones, the twins... moreover, do you remember the day that changed our lives? April 4, 1966...the day we lost our parents...the day I had to become "the adult" of the house so that you could have a good role model, to be able to move forward, so that you will finish your studies while I worked in 4 jobs at the same time...Colman, I was always very proud of you for having finished school with excellence. And then... the promising Sweeney boy in the military, saving thousands of lives... And do you remember what happened next? The stage of your depression arrived, where your health was very bad, you had to take very expensive medications, so I had to get more jobs to be able to pay for it… then it was your suicide attempt, where you broke a rib, and I had to go donate blood for the surgery... Oh Coleman, those were really difficult times for both of us... but I always stayed by your side.
Little brother, I am writing to you because 4 years ago I was diagnosed diabetes, it was something very sudden, since I take very good care of myself with my diet, so they sent me for medical tests because they told me that it could be genetic and affect my kidney. When they did the tests they discovered that it was indeed type 2 diabetes, and that my body was not producing enough insulin. Afterwards, I was treated with many pills, and medications that I took for 1 year very judiciously.
On February 15 I passed out in the bathroom of the mall for no reason. They called the doctors and transferred me to the Marlyn hospital, where they did tests, and they discovered that my diabetes is genetic, which makes it more serious. And additionally, I was applying less insulin than my body was asking for, so that meant that for almost two years my right kidney did not receive the necessary insulin and began to fail. Little brother...they told me that I had two options, to go to a relative so that they would please donate a new kidney to me so that I could have the transplant, or to finish living my last days with the damaged kidney, and wait for it to affect the other nearby organs and die in about 6 months.
I come to you through these lyrics, to be able to make you think about your life, and about how in the past you were a brilliant child, but who unfortunately allowed himself to be absorbed by the depression that resulted in an "asshole". But I know that bringing you all these memories from the past can make you change your mentality a bit. I come to you because I feel that now is the time for you to be the one who saves me, that you be the one to give me a kidney so that I can continue living for a long time to help you with this process that should not be easy. I come to you because I want to convince you that donating is just a step to realise that the child you had those dreams of when you were little is still very much inside of you.
Little brother, I hope that these words that I write with a lot of melancholy, despair and longing, can help you take off that blindfold that you have on your eyes, and be able to realise what is around you, and how there are people who may be having the same difficulties that you and do not have anyone to turn to, or do not know how to solve it... just as there may be some who want to fulfil their dreams and for health reasons cannot, as it is in my case... I am already registered so that when I die, my functional organs can be donated to people who are suffering from health just as I am suffering now. Without your help, I don't know if I will be able to fulfil my purpose, because my disease may mutate and become worse and affect all my organs.
Whatever you decide, I want you to know that until my death, you will have a sister who will always be there for you at all times, who will always be willing to help you, who will always be there at all times as I have always been... but now I need that you are the hero of my life.
Hope to see you soon..
With love,
you older sister Kacie.
